This is an academic paper looking at mediation and moderation analysis using linear regression.  It makes some observations and recommendations regarding usage, debunks some popular myths, and describes some new advances. The paper also provides an example set of analyses using the PROCESS macro for SPSS and SAS. It also a discussion regarding the analysis of the mechanisms and contingencies of effects.
