Overview
The RULES is a unidimensional measure designed to assess parents perceptions of their childs intolerance to uncertainty.Scoring & Interpretation
The RULES is a 17-item measure. For each of the items parents rate how well the statement describes their child. Ratings are recorded on a 5-point Likert style response scale ranging from 1 (not at all) to 5 (very much). Total scores are a sum of all 17 items and range from 17–85. Higher scores indicate greater intolerance of uncertainty.Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency
In the original development research internal consistency = α .93 (Sanchez et al. 2017).

A single-factor model was identified using exploratory factor analysis.
Validity
Convergent validity: Strong correlation between the RULES and other measures of IU (e.g., IUSC) and medium-to-large associations with Internalizing Problems, Anxiety/Depression, and Anxiety Problems (as measured using Child behavior checklist (CBCL/1.5-5,CBCL/6-18; Achenbach & Rescorla, 2000, 2001).
Construct validity: When controlling for age, externalizing problems - attention problems and aggressive behavior no longer predicted RULES scores however internalizing problems - anxiety - continued to significantly predict RULES scores.
