The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire – version 2 (AAQ-II), is a measure of psychological flexibility (present in the moment, open to experiences) Psychological inflexibility is the rigid thoughts, emotions and behaviours.Scoring & Interpretation
The AAQ-II is a 7-item unidimensional scale and is scored using a Likert-type scale (1 = ‘never’ to 7 = ‘always’). Total scores are the sum of the item scores. Scores ranges from 7 to 49. Higher total scores indicate greater psychological inflexibility/experiential avoidance.Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency
Internal consistency using Cronbach alpha was good (⍺ = .84)
Test-Retest Reliability
Test retest reliability was strong at 3 months (r=.81) and 12 months (r =.79)
Factor Structure
Unidimensional factor structure - supported by EFA and CFA (Bond et al.,2011)
Validity
The AAQ-II has been found to correlate significantly with measures of depression, anxiety and general psychopathology supporting construct validity. The AAQ-II has also been found to predict outcomes of mental health functioning indicating support for predictive validity.
