The Brain Story was developed by the FrameWorks Institute and the National Scientific Council of the Developing Child to explain early brain and child development in an accessible and practical way to parents and other caregivers, as well as practitioners working with families. Dissemination of the resource is now funded by the Palix Foundation and maintained by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative (Canada) and Oxford University (UK). 

The Brain Story toolkit contains written content and videos explaining core concepts in early brain and child development, including ‘brain architecture’, ‘serve and return’, ‘air traffic control’ and ‘toxic stress’, in lay terms. It also covers ACEs, addiction and resilience.  

These resources have been adopted by a number of UK organisations serving children and families, such as Family Support, Blackpool’s Better Start’s Big Little Moments campaign and the NSPCC.
